Teal Fields In Skin Seas,12"x12" Cut Paper, 2011

“The work I am producing now seeks to examine immigration and social alienation. This is done through the manipulation of Mexican newspapers which entices the viewer to inspect each piece much closer. Only then, do they realize or read a headline that transports them to the issues ensuing Mexico at this very moment…. To me, cut paper evokes an experience of therapy and atonement for [being] brought up in a privileged country, instead of in my ravaged mother land. Staining papers relates to the marginalization of Mexican people and covering, staining the reputation of a once bright and prosperous land.”
