severance pay only gets you so far

I have been unemployed for 11 business days now, and I think I’m going crazy.  I’ve applied for 17 positions, eliciting one response, so far: a position offering underpay for overtime.  I spend my days combing the internet for openings, attempting to follow up with “don’t call us; we’ll call you” companies, wishing it wasn’t getting cold outside, terrified to spend money for fear it won’t last as long as we need it to, kicking myself for majoring in something corporately impractical, always longing to skip country and hide in a foreign culture.  I know it won’t always be like this.  But the uncertain length of time is killing me.

  1. just name the place and I’ll run and hide with you.
I’ll drop everything for an “uncertain length of time” in Asia with you.
    or maybe Madrid?

as long as I can sit next to you on the plane or boat or taxi or tuk-tuk I’ll go as far as we need.

  2. do it…go!

now is the time to do it! before careers, and kids, and mortgages. you never know what life has in store for you, that’s why when a dream is there, and the timing is there, you have to take your chance!

  3. we dream about Madrid every time life gets hard & money gets tight :) something about being overseas makes me think it will all just go away!
Hang in there friend. And check out the canpo.org website for jobs if you haven’t already. I’ve found almost all of my jobs/ good interviews on there, and you can limit your search by region of the state. :)

  4. Thanks, Ang. I haven’t been to canpo yet. I’m going to seriously look into a couple of the listings already up and keep checking in…
In the meantime, perhaps we should ALL look into Madrid together! :)
